How Often Should You Service Your AC in Fresno?
Once a year for the AC, ahead of summer. Add a heating visit before winter, and a home with both systems has two visits a year. Here is what each visit covers.
How Often Should an AC Be Serviced in Fresno?
Service your AC once a year, ahead of the hot season. If your home also has a furnace or a heat pump, add a heating visit before winter. That makes two visits a year, which is the schedule Nalk's Energy Savings Agreement follows.
A Fresno air conditioner runs through months of long, hot days, and the Valley's dust and cottonwood fluff collect in the filter and on the outdoor coil while it works. Then winter comes, and a furnace or heat pump that has sat idle since spring has to start up on the first cold morning. A visit ahead of each season is a chance to catch a small problem while it is still a small one.
Nalk works under California contractor license #497476 and has served the Central Valley since 1986. Our AC tune-up page explains the cooling side in more detail.
What a Cooling Visit Covers
The cooling visit is the one to book in spring, before the heat arrives.
A new filter
Under Nalk's Energy Savings Agreement, a new premium filter goes in at each visit. A clogged filter restricts airflow.
The outdoor coil
The technician checks the outdoor coil for obstructions and washes it with non-acid cleaner where the job calls for it.
A look at the whole system
A technician checks how your system is running and tells you what it needs, in plain language, before anything is replaced.
What a Heating Visit Covers
The heating visit belongs in early fall, before the first cold mornings. On a gas furnace, our technician works through this checklist:
- A new premium filter, installed at the visit.
- Burners, pilot assembly, and gas valve inspected, and the gas supply checked for leaks.
- Ignition and the safety shut-off, tested to confirm they work.
- Inducer and blower motors checked, with the amp draw read on both.
- Limit and fan control checked.
- Exhaust and firebox: the exhaust is inspected for obstructions, and the firebox gets a look if there is any sign of flame rollout or lifting.
- The full run-through: start-up and shut-down sequences verified from beginning to end.
If your home heats with a heat pump, the visit follows the heat pump checklist instead: coils, refrigerant pressures, supply voltage, the defrost cycle, and the heat strips.
If you ever smell gas, leave the house and call 911 or your gas utility from outside. Do not turn anything on or off.
Call Sooner If You Notice
A scheduled visit does not replace a call when something changes. Tell us if you notice any of these.
- The air coming out is warm, or weaker than it used to be.
- The system turns on and off more often than it used to.
- You hear grinding, squealing, or banging when it runs.
- You smell something burning or musty when it runs.
- Water is pooling around the indoor unit.
- The furnace will not light, or the heat comes and goes.
Both Visits on One Schedule
Nalk's Energy Savings Agreement puts the cooling visit, the heating visit, and two new filters a year on a single yearly schedule, and our office calls when each visit is due. Read the full terms on the Energy Savings Agreement page.
