Choosing and changing a furnace filter
Use the filter size and type your HVAC system supports. A more restrictive filter is not automatically a better choice for the equipment.
Start with the equipment instructions
Check the manual, the existing filter’s dimensions, and any instructions at the accessible filter slot. Ask a technician if you cannot identify the correct type. A filter must fit properly and allow the airflow the system needs.
Inspect the filter regularly, especially during heavy use. Follow the manufacturer’s replacement interval and change it sooner if its condition calls for it. Dust, pets, and runtime can affect how quickly it loads. Do not assume every home needs the same monthly schedule.
Change only an accessible owner-serviceable filter
Follow the manufacturer’s shutdown and replacement steps, including the airflow arrow. Do not reach into equipment, remove service panels, or climb onto a roof. If the filter is hard to reach or you are unsure, ask for service.
See ENERGY STAR’s maintenance checklist for filter and seasonal-care guidance.
Understand what a plan includes
Nalk’s Energy Savings Agreement includes planned maintenance, priority scheduling, and 10% off replacement parts. The discount does not cover labor or new units. Read the current plan’s full price, duration, included visits, eligibility, and cancellation terms before enrolling. Nothing renews automatically.
Included filters at a maintenance visit do not replace checks between visits when the equipment instructions call for them. Ask the office which filter your system needs and what the plan includes for your unit.
A repair diagnosis has a visit charge. Read what a repair visit costs for the first-hour charge, additional time, parts, after-hours rates, and travel charges. The technician explains repair options and costs before you approve repair work.
