Is your AC running properly? Checks to share with a technician

A change in cooling, airflow, sound, or runtime can help you describe a problem. It does not establish a diagnosis or mean that you need a replacement.

Note what changed

  • Does the system start when the thermostat calls for cooling?
  • Is airflow weaker than usual, or different between rooms?
  • When did the sound, odor, water, or repeated cycling begin?
  • Did a setting, filter, repair, or household schedule change?

Write down an error message and the system’s model number if you can read it safely. Do not remove a panel to look for one.

Keep home checks simple

Review the thermostat mode and schedule. Check an accessible filter using the manufacturer’s instructions and keep room grilles clear. Leave wiring, refrigerant, internal cleaning, and roof access to a qualified technician.

A higher utility bill alone does not prove equipment failure. Weather, rates, usage, and equipment condition can all matter.

Maintenance and a fault need different attention

A maintenance visit checks condition and operation. Tell the office about a known fault when you request service so staff can discuss the right visit. ENERGY STAR’s maintenance checklist describes common professional checks.

A repair diagnosis has a visit charge. Read what a repair visit costs for the first-hour charge, additional time, parts, after-hours rates, and travel charges. The technician explains repair options and costs before you approve repair work.

Installation and replacement estimates are free. Already have a repair, installation, or replacement quote from another company? Ask about our free second quote. A request becomes an appointment when the office confirms the date and time.
